Childcare and Community Service Learning Programme in Cambodia
On arrival day, a staff member will be waiting to collect the group holding a sign, from the Phnom Penh Airport (PNH).
The students will then be taken by minibus to their accommodation, where they will have the rest of the day to get used to their new environment.
After the students have settled in, they are given culture awareness training. This gives volunteers an insight into the Cambodian culture, customs, and traditions of this beautiful country.
Students are officially welcomed with a traditional water blessing.
In Buddhist practice, water blessings are designed to be given to all people, regardless of their religion. This is always a special moment that provides a close insight into the important values in Cambodian culture.
It’s now time for the students to be assigned their placements! Working at a preschool or special needs school, students will aim to promote learning and early childhood development through play activities.
This will be done through:
You will improve and brighten spaces to make them more usable and inspiring for the children. Whether you are building playground equipment or painting an educational mural, there’s always plenty to do!
Day 5
After lunch, students will head off on a trip to Siem Reap! This journey is around 5 hours long. In the evening, the group will enjoy a buffet dinner and a traditional dancing show before exploring the night markets of Siem Reap
Day 6
Today the group will visit the Ancient Royal Temple of Angkor Wat; a 12th-century temple complex. The group will also visit Bayon and Ta Prohm - the filming location for Angelina Jolie’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.
After this, they will begin their journey back to Phnom Penh for their flight home tomorrow!
Evenings will include various activities; from movie nights to dinners at the local restaurants to guided meditations and a quiz night, the group will make plenty of memories together!
Students will also be invited to take part in a cooking class to learn how to make a delicious Cambodian dish. To create a fully immersive experience, they will also watch the Sovanna Phum Shadow Art and Cultural Performance.
We know that students will be excited to explore the local area. Hence, some time will be set aside to visit the local tourist attractions such as Central Market, Aeon Mall, and the Royal Palace.
