Join our Microfinance Program in Tanzania and learn from industry experts while supporting women and businesses in the local community.
The main goal of this program is to help local entrepreneurs achieve financial independence. To do this, our staff and volunteers offer advice, workshops, and interest-free loans to help them lay the foundation of their businesses.
All the beneficiaries are women who need loans to develop their businesses and contribute to the family income.
Because of the loans, the women can set up a small business, which can help them earn enough money to pay school fees or for school uniforms, for example.
Play an active role in upskilling them while bettering your understanding of micro-finance in a developing country.
On the weekend, you’ll have the opportunity to explore Tanzania further with a safari day at Tarangire National Park, and a day hike to the breathtaking Meru Waterfalls.
Micro-Finance Learning Programme in Tanzania
Touching down at Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO), you will find yourself transported into a whole new world. Passing through security, you head towards the airport exit where you will be met by a staff member.
The staff member will then take you to your accommodation in Arusha where you will drop off your bags and spend time settling in.
Staff will begin your cultural awareness training. Designed to give you insight into Tanzanian culture, customs, and traditions, this training will help you better understand the community you will be working in, making you feel more at home!
After this, you will break for lunch in town. Once you feel refreshed and ready to go, our staff with take you on a tour of Arusha. This is a great chance to exchange money and organize a local phone number for yourself.
Today you’ll meet with the local women already benefiting from this program. Find out more about the impact this has had on their lives, and the skills they have developed through training and workshops that have helped them become financially independent.
Next, you will visit individuals who are interested in a loan. With support from staff, you will interview them to determine whether or not they qualify for a loan. You will have training before your visit to ensure you understand the process!
Following on from the interviews this morning, you will have time to receive feedback on how you did and also reflect on the process as a whole. For those who were successful in their interview, you will prepare a profile for them to put into the system, beginning their stakeholder journey!
The group will also continue their work with business and home visits (individual interviews) and have consultations with the potential beneficiaries.
You will be meeting with entrepreneurs to discuss their business plans. Spend time reviewing their notes, and putting together some ideas with your mentor, ready to discuss shortly.
It’s a good idea to check over their account to try and pinpoint areas where money can be saved, or processes can be streamlined. This will ensure your business plan’s effectiveness can be measured against larger goals, e.g. reduce waste by 30%, or, produce 20% more goods per day.
After building strategies, you will catch up with entrepreneurs to solidify business plans, agree on goals, and respond to any concerns or queries!
In the evenings, you’ll learn more about Tanzania and its rich culture with an exciting workshop! Better your understanding of local traditions and values, and learn basic Swahili phrases that you can practice when meeting people during your project, or even during your weekend trip!
