Community Development / CAS Trip to Kenya

Kenya

Travel, Explore & Learn

Join our Community Development CAS programme in Kenya and help promote early childhood development. This will include planning and executing fun, educational activities for children to develop their creativity and motor skills. In addition, the group will assist with light renovation work at a local school. By making improvements to the school, you will be giving the children a better place to learn and grow. During this trip, you will immerse yourself in Kenyan culture and explore some of the country’s most popular tourist sites.

Community Development / CAS Trip to Kenya

Our adventure in 7 days

Nairobi to Nanyuki

On arrival day, a UniHawk staff member will welcome and collect you from the Nairobi Airport (NBO).

You will then be taken by a minibus to your accommodation in Nanyuki where you can settle in before starting the induction. During the induction session, we will conduct cultural awareness training to give you an insight into Kenyan culture, customs, and traditions.

We will then visit the primary school you will be working at. This is a great time to meet the teachers and support staff you will be working with, and discuss expectations and work schedules.

We shall then proceed to a welcome meal at a traditional Kenyan restaurant! This is a great way for your group to discuss all you have seen and what you are looking forward to, and try some classic, local cuisine!

Akuapem Hills

While working at the school, you will support the teaching staff around the classroom by completing a variety of tasks, such as:

  • Organizing fun, educational activities for children
  • Reading with the children
  • Encouraging creativity through lessons such as music and arts and crafts
  • Building puzzles
  • Setting up outdoor activities to develop students’ motor skills
  • Preparing dinner for the children

You will improve and brighten spaces to make them more usable and inspiring for the children. Whether you are building playground equipment or painting an educational mural, there’s always plenty to do!

Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Day 5 Today, you will head out to explore the Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Your group is in for a treat as you head out on a safari!

As you explore the park in an off-road vehicle, you can look out for Africa’s Big 5: lions, leopards, rhinos, elephants, and buffalos. These are some of the most beloved and majestic animals, which can be seen roaming in their natural habitat.

During the safari, your group will learn more about Kenya’s climate from local conservation experts, gaining a deeper understanding of the importance of protecting the environment.

Day 6

Today, you will head to the Maasai Market. Known for affordable and unique souvenirs, you are bound to find something interesting to take home for family, and friends or even a memento for yourself. Here, you will find everything from paintings and prints to wood carvings and jewelry, all made by local artisans.

Later on, your group will have time for swimming; the perfect way to round off two days of adventure!

Social and cultural activities

In the evenings, you will get involved in a range of activities that will immerse you in Kenyan life and teach you about local traditions.

We will host quiz nights at the hotel, participate in the cooking class, and learn how to make a delicious, traditional Kenyan dish.

You will also learn a new language with a Swahili lesson!
